TEPCO’s Bolt Together Tanks Were Known To Leak Before Installation

The manufacturer that sold TEPCO used bolt together tanks for use at Fukushima Daiichi said that the tanks were known to not be leak proof. The tanks, made to hold construction mud were not made for holding dangerous liquids. Instead they were used as temporary solutions on construction sites for holding mud. TEPCO purchased a number of both used and new tanks, the company said they never guaranteed the used tanks for 5 years as they do with new ones.
TEPCO also continued to install bolt together tanks even after being directed to stop doing so and install welded tanks.
