Typhoon Matmo made landfall in Taiwan, tracking toward southeastern China

Typhoon Matmo made landfall in Taiwan, south of Hualian, early on July 22, 2014. Matmo is the third typhoon in the western Pacific Basin in less than three weeks. This is the first typhoon to make landfall in Taiwan this year, coming ashore near the township of Changbin on the island’s east coast.Matmo made landfall as a category 2 typhoon. According to Taiwan’s The Central Weather Bureau (CWB), Lanyu Township reported wind gust of 212 km/h (132 mph). Chikungunya and dengue outbreak reported in El Salvador

El Salvador is now the first country in Central America with a chikungunya outbreak after several cases appeared in early June 2014 in the municipality of Axutuxtepeque in the Department of San Salvador. Dengue cases have also increased in the country in recent months, IFRC reports.On June 18, 2014, the Ministry of Health, through the Directorate-General for Civil Protection, established a stratified Yellow Alert due to the growing number of cases of chikungunya and dengue fever in the country.By July, 1 300 suspected chikungunya cases had been reported, distributed over six departments and 20 municipalities.Up to epidemiological week 25 of this year, 15 225 suspected cases of dengue had been recorded, of which 5 299 were confirmed positive, 93 of them severe.These figu… »

Albuquerque aquifer system shows impact of groundwater pumping

According to two new reportts published by the USGS, groundwater pumping has produced significant changes in water levels below some parts of the Albuquerque metropolitan area.For many decades, the water supply requirements of the Albuquerque metropolitan area in central New Mexico were met almost exclusively by groundwater withdrawal from the Santa Fe Group aquifer system. Fukushima plant worker job offer / “Remove and assort debris in Fukushima plant, No insurance supported”

There are lot of job offers to work in crippled Fukushima nuclear plant on the internet.

Fukushima Diary found one of those job offers supporting no insurance.

None of the details about the promoter are announced. Specific job description is not explained either but the job offer is categorized as “Debris removal and assorting in Fukushima plant”.

They accept inexperienced people to promise to supply “education” before actually starting to work in Fukushima plant.

The necessary document to apply is only basic resident register card or driving license, and a picture of the face to be sent by email.

They offer to male with Japanese nationality from 20 to 58 years old. The daily salary is supposed to be 15,000 yen, however meal will not be supported and vacancy of accommodation is described to be “limited”. More importantly, they state no insurance will be supported.

The job offer description also reads those who have been related to Yakuza, with criminal record or tattoo are rejected.

The offer was posted on 6/23/2014 and still available.

A Japanese citizen posted on Twitter that the carrots in yard grew to be “very strange” this year.

The person is an engraver artist living in the North part of Mie prefecture, western part of Japan.

No more details are posted, but from stating “this year”, apparently it hadn’t been like these before.

Not to mention, it has nothing to do with radiation.

Ibaraki prefecture doesn’t check Tritium in swimming beach seawater lower than 20,000 Bq/m3

Ibaraki prefectural government doesn’t test Tritium density in seawater if it’s lower than 20,000 Bq/m3.

They are going to open its 18 swimming beaches late in July though these beaches are located in the lower reaches of a sea current from Fukushima plant, which still keeps leaking highly contaminated water.

In all of 4 times tests, Ibaraki prefecture set the lowest detectable level of Tritium in seawater as 20,000 Bq/m3, which is 20 times much as Cesium-134/137 for some reason. When the reading was lower than that level, they announced only “ok” without mentioning the detailed analysis result.
