Work has begun, to concrete over the port at Fukushima Daiichi for a second time. Initial work to concrete over the port floor was initiated soon after the disaster was brought partially under control. This work will be completed in March of 2015 with monitoring of the work to continue for some time after the work is completed to confirm it is still working.
The port has been suspect since 2011 as a contributing factor in ocean contamination and has seen fish in the port with six digit contamination readings for cesium.

Photo : Outbreak of Lymantria dispar in Nagano city
As far as Fukushima Diary researched by now, at least 7 municipalities and Fukushima prefecture have large outbreaks of harmful insects.
Nagano city in Nagano prefecture has an outbreak of moth named “Lymantria dispar” now (Picture is attached on the top. Video and other pictures are attached below.).
Some of the rest parts of Nagano prefecture also have the outbreak of this moth. They had mass generation last year as well.
The larvae have venom and are known to give severe damages to mountains and forests.
Also, the entire area of Shiga prefecture have the outbreak of 3 kinds of “stink bugs”. These give severe damage to fruits.
They started having mass generation since late in June. It became nearly 4 times much as average in July.
Toyota city in Aichi prefecture has the outbreak of “fruit fly” so the municipal supply center of school meals had to be closed.
Sasayama city in Hyogo prefecture has the outbreak of a kind fly named “Sciaridae“. It also started having mass generation since late in June.
Citizens report the windows were covered with the flies so it look black. 2 cities of Kyoto prefecture are also reported to have the outbreak of this type of fly.
Additionally, entire place of Fukushima prefecture is also reported to have “stink bugs” to give serious damage to rice.
The highest number of the past 10 years was reported late in June as well. Minamisoma city had the outbreak of stink bugs last year as well.
Several municipalities and regions have the outbreaks of the insects, but the types the insects are different from area to area.
The specific causes haven’t been identified yet, however the significant decrease of birds have been reported in Fukushima prefecture, and also malformation of birds have been reported all around in Japan. Seemingly it is urgently demanded to implement the survey on the relationship between the decrease of birds and the increase of insects.
