Fukushima Unit 4 Fuel Removal Delayed 1 Week Due To Crane Failure

The control mechanism for the overhead crane in the defueling building at Fukushima Daiichi unit 1 failed. TEPCO is reporting it could take a week to get the crane back into service. This is a brand new crane installed in 2013 when the defueling building was built to remove the spent fuel from unit 4.

18 People Use “Return To Fukushima” Jobs Program

18 people have used a government jobs program intended to get people to return to Fukushima after the 2011 disasters. At least one person interviewed by Japan Times cited the hardship returning would cause his family.
