USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) scientists conducted a helicopter overflight of the June 27th lava flow this morning and mapped its perimeter. At the time of the flight, surface breakouts along the distal part of the flow were scattered between 0.5 and 1 km (0.3 and 0.6 mi) upslope of the stalled flow tip; a narrow lobe was advancing north-northeast about 700 m (765 yd) upslope of the stalled tip.
